York Open Studios Announce 2025 Dates

York Open Studios Announce 2025 Dates

5 – 6 April and 12 – 13 April 2025

York Open Studios celebrates 24 years of creativity this year! Announcing their dates, Saturday and Sunday 5 – 6 April and 12 – 13 April, artists who live or work within a 10-mile radius of York will welcome visitors across these two weekends. Over 160 talented makers will show and sell their work, giving visitors a rare insight into how they work. These special weekends give artists the chance to reveal their inspirations, meet potential buyers and collectors, and show visitors where the creativity is harnessed.

With something for everyone and every budget, traditional and contemporary painting and print, illustration, drawing and ceramics, glass and sculpture, jewellery, textiles, mixed media, photography and installation art, York Open Studios celebrates this year in style.  Three independent selectors chose from applications from regular and new artists, some longstanding York residents and some new to the city, bringing a wealth of diverse work. The only constant is that York Open Studios’ aim remains the same: to bring stimulating and varied work to buyers and those interested to see the creative process.  A peek into where the magic happens!

Charmian Ottaway, committee member and contemporary designer jeweller says: “These weekends are a highlight in the cultural calendar and this year 2025 is also a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the ethos behind YOS: welcoming visitors to our art spaces and showing them talent in action.  The maps on our website or in the printed directory help you plan your day, whether that’s to find the type of work and medium that appeals to you, find an artist with whom you already have an interest or check out new artists and their work to inspire you.”

The YOS weekends are perfect for the ‘drop-in’ visitor on a day out in York, regular collectors who are checking in on new work and those who just want to see talent in action. Regular artists such as wood carver Dave Atkin, painter Kerry Moffatt, furniture maker Marcus Jacka and jewellery designer Emma Welsh, will help you build your collection, or visitors can seek out something entirely new with artists such as painter Marcus Callum, photographer Alasdair McIntosh, homeware and furniture maker George Younge and printmaker Nic Fife, who are new to YOS.

Visit the website for more information www.yorkopenstudios.co.uk and access the interactive map York Open Studios interactive map.  Alternatively, a free printed directory is available from various tourist hubs and artist locations throughout the city of York and the wider city region.  Plan your route to maximise the range of artists or organise your day interspersed with something entirely different! Whatever your style, it’s time to put the dates in the diary.

York Open Studios 2025: See Where The Magic Happens

York Open Studios is an annual not-for-profit event which represents the best of artists and makers living or working within a ten-mile radius of the city.  Many artists open their doors to invite the public into their workspaces, some artists will share venues or exhibit their work in other spaces.  Artists who are not in their own workspace may display a selection of tools and materials or even demonstrate their skills to give you a more ‘Open Studio’ experience for visitors.

The website provides full information regarding the event, illustrating details of participating artists, including their medium and a map of York and its surrounding areas which highlight where visitors will be able to visit them.  These can be found in libraries, shops and galleries all over York in the weeks before York Open Studios.
