SEPTEMBER SEAFOOD FESTIVAL SWEEPS IN AT THE GENERAL TARLETON
18th September to 3rd October
The popular Seafood Festival returns to The General Tarleton in September. A celebration of the sea, the menu is full of gloriously inspirational seafood dishes available every day between Friday 18th September and Saturday 3rd October.
The traditional Little Moneybags, created by Chef Patron John Topham 20 years ago, were just the start. Ever popular, these little gems of pastry filled fish served with a lobster bisque sauce, continue to be a mainstay of the menu all year round, and now John has shared his passion for seafood with his head chef Marc Williams. At this special time of year with the seas’ harvest at its very best, the festival menus combine innovation with tradition. Our nation’s treasure trove of coastal ingredients, such as locally smoked fish to lobsters, langoustines, clams, mussels, scallops, and halibut, seabass and turbot, are used throughout. The festival menu includes favourites such as local boat caught haddock coated in Black Sheep beer batter and real chips, homemade tartare sauce and fresh mushy peas, the classic Moules and Frites, and a new reworking of the famous GT’s Fish Pie, to superbly fresh and creative dishes such as Fillet of Halibut with mussels, clams, samphire and saffron broth.
Says John Topham: ‘The Seafood Festival provides us with an opportunity to get even more creative. Seafood is wonderfully adaptable and works so well with other seasonal ingredients – it’s interesting to build dishes from a foundation of seafood or use these superb seafood ingredients to enhance a dish. There is something for everyone and every pocket, and if you’re a meat eater, you are still welcome. What is a constant is our commitment to seasonality, freshness and individuality – it’s a wonderfully creative time at The GT and one of our favourite times of the year.’
