Autumn at The General Tarleton : From the classics to 21st century innovation
As the golden hues of autumn descend on north Yorkshire, The General Tarleton Inn in Ferrensby is celebrating the onset of the season with a schedule of events to warm the cockles. These two months weave together classics of the past and present innovative dishes for today within a rich and vibrant programme to keep the chill at bay. Recently included in the 2015 Good Food Guide, the General Tarleton is working hard to ensure this accolade is fully appreciated by all their guests, whether it’s for an overnight stay with dinner or guests visiting for a bite at lunch time.
The Prawn Cocktail Years – Thursday 8th October to Friday 16th October
This nostalgic trip down memory lane brings together some of the best dishes from the 70s and 80s all made with the skill and style of today. Bringing back happy memories from times past, chef Marc Williams is putting together a menu of classics such as Duck a l’Orange, Black Forest Gateaux and of course Prawn Cocktail itself. Celebrating a place in our gastronomic history as well as in our hearts, these classic dishes are available from Thursday 8th to Friday 16th October in the Brasserie – a great way to remind ourselves why these iconic dishes share a place in our gastronomic history and in our hearts.
Truffle Week – Thursday 22nd to Thursday 29th October
These diamonds of the kitchen are divine at this time of year and to celebrate the White Truffle season, truffles are sprinkled throughout the menus during the week, culminating in a Special Truffle Dinner on Thursday 29th October comprising a six course tasting menu of Truffles and dessert. Dinner is £45 per person and, with a choice of wines provided by Chef Patron John Topham, £75 per person.
Halloween 31st October
Celebrating the flavours and comfort of autumn throughout this seasonal menu for Halloween, these carefully selected dishes will be perfect after a walk in the countryside. With the General Tarleton centrally located for some of the bests walks in the country, Halloween welcomes beautifully slow cooked dishes to the Brasserie that showcase this bountiful time of year.
Game Fortnight – Thursday 5th to Saturday 21st November
An exciting time of year when Yorkshire’s wonderful game is at its very best. With a Special’s Board bursting with the magnificent local game that surrounds the General Tarleton, this year’s bounty includes Grouse, Partridge, Pheasant, Hare, Rabbit, Pigeon, Mallard, Venison and when available Snipe, Teal and Woodcock, all to be enjoyed with a glass of fine wine in the comfort of the cosy Bar/Brasserie.
Steak Week – Monday 23rd to Sunday 29th November
In conjunction with the acclaimed butcher, R & J Yorkshires Finest in Kirkby Malzeard, the team want their customers to experience their incredible salt aged beef. This superb local supplier has revolutionised salt aged beef, with an innovative Salt Chamber using none other than Himalayan Salt. Researched in meticulous detail, the team were so impressed with this unique method and its glorious results that they are dedicating a week to Steak with a long list of various steaks all cooked on the chargrill.
