Dress to Impress at The Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival

Beginning on Wednesday 21 August, York Racecourse plays host to the oldest, richest, fastest and most prestigious races of its year, at the four day Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor Festival. The Festival, dating back to 1843, runs from Wednesday 21 August to Saturday 24 August and includes fashion, fun, fine food and fabulous thoroughbreds. It is a great day out filled with excitement, heritage and glamour, whether you’re a racing fanatic or just want to soak up the atmosphere at one of the UK’s most esteemed race meetings in the beautiful city of York.

Dressing to impress is part of the fun and so the team at York has created, Fashion at the Ebor, a dedicated marquee complete with catwalk and retail therapy. Leading milliner Yvette Jelfs will be on hand with top tips for top hats.  For all four days, racegoers will be able to take to the catwalk in a fun and free competition. The daily winner on Ladies Day (Thursday 22 August), will also be crowned 'Best Dressed Racegoer', and will win a short break for two to the Marriott Hotel in Dubai as well as entry to the Dubai World Cup Race Night.  The competition is open to ladies, gentlemen and children, who will each have their own category prize donated by outlets such as Beaufort and Blake and Zak and Flo. It is about looking your best and enjoying fashion, it is not a search for a supermodel.  The judging panel will consist of different guest judges over the course of the four days, including top designers and actress/model Abbie Steele.  For those seeking some retail therapy amongst others, there will be Yvette Jelfs hats as well handbags from Oriella, clothing from Country Sporting of Cashel. And Beaufort and Blake and jewels from Gorgeous Gorgeous. There will also be products from luxury hamper company Gourmet Trotter.

In a photo-shoot to celebrate the fashion and the heritage of the Festival, we have models dressed in clothing that would have been all the rage when the Betfred Ebor was first run back in 1843, as well as sporting a look that should catch admiring glances for this years running of the £250,000 race on Saturday 24 August. Models are Jessie Gillick from York and Helen Rook, Commercial Assistant, York Racecourse.

Entry is priced at £54 for the County Stand and £29 for Grandstand & Paddock per person, with accompanied under 16 free of charge.
